The Transitional Doulas Behind Our Organization

What is an End of Life Doula and Why Do I Need One?
Historically families and communities as a whole have cared for each other from birth until physical death occurred. Sadly, these days that isn't the reality most of us live in anymore. Although a Birthing Into Spirit Doula could never fully replace family, we can help fill in the gaps. Birthing Into Spirit Doulas are also commonly known as End-of-Life or death doulas.

Birthing Into Spirit is a journey we will all take. Leaving this physical life is something we will all do. We often don’t have much of a say about when we birth into spirit but we can have a say about how we live until we die. We chose the doula training program created by Katye Anna, which is structured around her vision of taking the fear out of dying for both the person birthing into spirit and their family. We help to bring the subject of death and dying out of the shadows and into the open, as our belief is that physical death is a natural part of the journey of the incarnated soul.

According to the National End-Of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) End-of-life doulas provide a broad range of non-medical, holistic support and comfort to those preparing for or experiencing end of life. People who desire such support may engage with doulas as early as initial diagnosis, or as late as the beginning of the active dying phase, or even after death if bereavement care is what they are seeking. Doulas may provide informational resources, hands-on comfort measures, respite, facilitation, advocacy, and many other services. Above all, doulas seek to help those dying, and their loved ones, achieve an end-of-life experience that is as meaningful, peaceful, and well-prepared as possible for all involved.
